iOS Setup

Eye-Fi is a third-party product that adds wireless capabilities to digital cameras (and devices that act like digital cameras, like Doxie Go). Expect the setup process to take 10-15 minutes -- perhaps a bit longer than it took to set up Doxie itself.

These instructions are for Eye-Fi X2 series cards.

Eye-Fi cards are not compatible with Doxie for iOS. Images are sent to the Eye-Fi app, available on the App Store.

First, Install Eye-Fi On Your Computer

The Eye-Fi software is on the card itself, and you need to use your computer to configure the card. To install:

  1. Insert your Eye-Fi card into the supplied Eye-Fi card reader (not into Doxie Go). Plug the reader into any free USB port on your computer, then wait for the card to mount.
  2. For Mac users: Open the Eye-Fi removable drive from a new window in the Finder. Go to the START HERE folder, select Mac OS X, then open Eye-Fi to start.
  3. For PC users: Choose the “Open folder to view files” option when prompted, or navigate to the card under My Computer. Go to the START HERE folder, then select the Windows folder. Double click the Setup.exe file to start.
  4. Eye-Fi Center should launch after installation -- it can also be launched from the Eye-Fi menu on the menu bar (Mac) or taskbar tray (Windows). Eye-Fi Center, allows you to set up Eye-Fi to work with your iOS app.

Follow the steps on-screen to set up Eye-Fi. After creating an Eye-Fi account, be sure to click the Eye-Fi activation link in the e-mail they send you to continue with setup.

Remember, it might take a few minutes for your first images to show up. Once you’ve finished, proceed to follow the additional setup steps below before integrating with the Doxie app.

Tip: Eye-Fi Center helps you set up an Eye-Fi account. When you open the Eye-Fi app on your iOS device for the first time, use the option to log into your account at the bottom of the welcome screen.

Tip: You don't need an "activation code" to set up the Eye-Fi app on your iOS device -- just click "already have an Eye-Fi account".

Next, Set Additional Options

Once you’ve gone through Eye-Fi’s setup process, there’s just a few more steps to set up your Eye-Fi card for use with Doxie Go:

  1. Re-insert the Eye-Fi card, open the Eye-Fi Center software, then click the “gear” icon that appears next to the card (on the left) to open the settings
  2. Networks > Private Networks tab: Add your Wi-Fi network here if it’s not listed already. This will ensure that Eye-Fi uses your existing network if available, instead of creating its own by default.
  3. Networks > Direct Mode tab: Turn this on so Eye-Fi can create its own Wi-Fi network when a configured private network isn’t available. This is particularly helpful when you’re away from your home or office. Turn on Direct Mode, then set both timeouts to 1 minute.
  4. Transfer Mode > Endless Memory tab: Enable Endless Memory, and set the limit to 10%. This ensures that you card doesn’t fill up with images you’ve already transferred, which slows down scanning over time.

Finally, You’re Ready To Scan To Your iOS Device

Eject the SD card and insert it into Doxie's SD card slot.

Now that you’re set up, it’s easy to scan wirelessly to your iPhone or iPad. Eye-Fi’s app for iOS finds your Eye-Fi on the network when you open the app, either via your private Wi-Fi network, or the direct Wi-Fi network that Eye-Fi creates when no other networks are around.

To connect and sync scans:

  1. Turn on Doxie Go, insert your Eye-Fi card, then connect your iOS device to the same network as your Eye-Fi card.
  2. Open the Eye-Fi app on your device. Wait a few seconds, and transfers will start automatically.
  3. The Eye-Fi app downloads scans to your iOS device's Photos app. Once the transfer is complete, you’re done in the Eye-Fi app. Any app that can access your Photos app can then access your scans downloaded from Doxie.

Scan your first sheet, and it'll automatically transmit via Eye-Fi to your Photos app in a moment.
