I'm seeing poor battery life.
When Doxie Q's battery is fully charged, it lasts for about 1000 scans in default 300 dpi mode.
If you're seeing less than this, here's some reasons that might be the case:
- Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi uses a lot of extra power. Turn off Wi-Fi when you're not using it. Doxie is designed to be used as a portable scanner - meaning that you scan while not connected, then connect when you’re finished to download your scans. You only need to turn on Wi-Fi when you’re ready to transfer your scans, so turn off Wi-Fi when you’re not using it.
- 600 dpi: Scanning in 600 dpi mode takes much more energy. Expect about 65% of the rated battery life.
- Battery depletion over time: All rechargeable batteries lose power over time, especially if unused, so if you charge up Doxie then leave it unused for weeks or months, some or most of the power may be lost.
- Leaving Doxie on: You can save power by turning off Doxie when you're not using it. Doxie automatically turns off after a few minutes if left unused.
- When turning on Wi-Fi, the battery indicator can drop quickly: The battery indicator can be a bit misleading at times. Wi-Fi places a huge load on the battery, causing the indicator to drop quickly and making the battery seem lower than it really is. One thing you can do to get an accurate reading on your battery level is to turn Wi-Fi off for just a minute - the level will jump back up, giving you a better indicator as to how much battery you have left.
What happens when the battery is low
When Doxie Q's battery is depleted, Doxie will turn itself off automatically. Scans are retained in memory regardless of the battery status.
Replacement batteries
Doxie features a user-replaceable battery. Lithium-ion batteries have a long but finite life. Over time and many charge cycles, any lithium-ion battery will hold less and less of a charge. Eventually, you might want to replace your Doxie's battery with a new one as a result. Read more here.
